FORT MILL, SC — Gold Hill Elementary School has emerged victorious at the 2025 South Carolina Scholastic Chess Championship, held on March 22. The team outmaneuvered competitors from over 90 schools, showcasing exceptional skill and strategic prowess.
The championship, which drew 190 young chess players from across the state, witnessed intense competition as Gold Hill Elementary’s team members demonstrated remarkable focus and determination. The winning team comprises Aayansh Bhakta, Anirudh Kannan, Ashvadheer Radhakrishnan, Ashwath Kalagiri, Johann Jayabarath, Maria Jayabarath, and Samvit Reddy.
Adding to the school’s triumph, Johann Jayabarath has qualified for the individual state finals, scheduled for April 5. He will compete against the top players in the state for the individual state champion title.
