FORT MILL, S.C. — AC Flora held off a Fort Mill surge, securing an 8-7 victory in a tightly contested lacrosse match Wednesday night.
AC Flora controlled the early game, capitalizing on Fort Mill turnovers and dominating face-offs. They took a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter, and extended it to 2-1 by the end of the first.
The second quarter saw both defenses holding strong, with offenses struggling to find their rhythm. AC Flora extended their lead to 4-1, but Fort Mill’s Cayden Klapheke scored a man-up goal to close the gap. AC Flora then committed a 30 second conduct penalty. Patrick Yarborough, assisted by Klapheke, scored to bring Fort Mill within one at 4-3, but AC Flora scored on a fast break before the half, taking a 5-3 lead into the break.
The second half continued to be a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading goals. Fort Mill battled to close the gap, but AC Flora managed to maintain their lead.
With the loss, Fort Mill falls to 5-3 overall. They will look to rebound on Saturday at River Bluff.
