Gas Prices Inch Up in South Carolina Amid Global Oil Supply Constraints

Gas prices in South Carolina are on the rise again this week as international sanctions continue to restrict oil supplies, driving up costs at the pump.

The state’s average price for a gallon of gas climbed 2 cents from last week, reaching $2.76 on Monday. This marks an increase of 4 cents from a month ago but remains 2.5 cents lower than the same time last year.

Prices vary widely across the state, with the lowest reported price on Sunday at $2.39 per gallon, while the highest reached $3.25.

Nationally, gas prices have remained relatively stable, with the average price dipping by 1.1 cents over the past week to $3.02 per gallon. However, the national average is up nearly a cent from last month and down 3.2 cents compared to a year ago.

Diesel prices tell a different story. The national average for diesel rose 3.7 cents in the past week, now standing at $3.525 per gallon, influenced by colder weather driving up heating demand and affecting refining operations.

Seasonally weak demand for gasoline may cushion the impact for now, but refinery maintenance season—when gasoline production typically decreases—is just around the corner. This could trigger the usual springtime price rally.

For now, drivers in South Carolina are advised to keep an eye on local prices and take advantage of the most affordable options.
