Changes Coming to Carowinds: Three Rides Retiring, New Attractions on the Horizon

Carowinds, the iconic theme park straddling the North and South Carolina border, is gearing up for a transformative few years. In a recent announcement, the park revealed that three beloved rides—Nighthawk, Scream Weaver, and Drop Tower—will soon retire. The news comes as part of Six Flags Entertainment Company’s ambitious $1 billion investment in enhancing guest experiences across its parks, including Carowinds.

The retired rides will make way for an exciting lineup of new attractions, including a “record-breaking” water ride set to debut in 2026 and fresh family-friendly experiences in the popular Camp Snoopy area in 2025.

New Additions in Camp Snoopy (2025)

Two new rides will debut in Camp Snoopy next year:

  • Snoopy’s Racing Railway: A family-friendly launch coaster promising thrills for guests of all ages.
  • Charlie Brown’s River Raft Blast: A water raft ride allowing up to eight passengers to spray fellow riders, adding an interactive twist to the experience.

In addition to these rides, Camp Snoopy will introduce new splash play zones and an enhanced meet-and-greet area at the camp store, where visitors can interact with their favorite Peanuts characters.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Details about the record-breaking water ride set for 2026 remain under wraps, but Carowinds has promised to share more information in summer 2025. Anticipation is already building among fans eager to see what groundbreaking innovation the park will deliver.

Saying Goodbye to Old Favorites

While the announcement of new rides is exciting, the retirement of Nighthawk, Scream Weaver, and Drop Tower marks the end of an era for many park-goers. These rides have been staples of the Carowinds experience for years, each offering unique thrills and memories.

Six Flags’ Vision for the Future

The upcoming changes align with Six Flags’ vision to reinvigorate its parks and provide cutting-edge attractions. The $1 billion initiative includes updates and new features aimed at elevating the guest experience, with Carowinds playing a pivotal role in this plan.

As Carowinds looks toward the future, park enthusiasts can expect a blend of nostalgia and innovation, ensuring that the park remains a must-visit destination in the Carolinas for years to come.
