S.C. Archives and History Foundation announces program on S.C. Maritime History

Columbia, S.C. -The South Carolina Archives and History Foundation (SCAHF) announces its latest program, South Carolina’s Maritime History, scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the SC History Center in Columbia.  South Carolina’s significant maritime history covers wars, commerce, pirates and adventure. Presentations include Pirates, Planters, and Proprietors: The Economy of Early South Carolina, Andrew Johnson, PhD, SC Dept. of Archives & History, Palmetto Privateers of 1812, Joe Long, South Carolina State Museum, The Royal Navy in colonial-era South Carolina, Dr. Nic Butler, Charleston County Library, Archaeological Investigations of Early Shipwrecks in South Carolina Waters, James Spirek, USC, State Underwater Archaeologist, and more.  The program begins a 9:30 AM and runs until 3:30 PM.  SC History Center is located at 8301 Parklane Road, Columbia, SC  29223, where there is plenty of free parking.  While you are there visit the SC Department of Archives and History exhibit “Know Your State and Make It Known: The South Carolina Historical Marker Program”.

About the South Carolina Archives and History Foundation: The mission is  to provide support for the programs and services of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, which preserves the public records and cultural history of the Palmetto State. Since 1993, the Foundation has raised public awareness and donations for the agency’s mission. The Foundation’s most notable endeavor was its successful capital campaign to help fund the construction of the South Carolina Archives and History Center, the home of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History (SCDAH).
