Fort Mill School Board Meeting Highlights

District Report Card

Dr. Michael Waiksnis, Mr. Matt Rohring and Mrs. Renee Beck presented information from the 2024 SC School Report Cards released by the South Carolina Department of Education and the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee.

The report cards provide overall ratings of Excellent, Good, Average, Below Average, or Unsatisfactory based on a 100-point scale for all public elementary, middle and high schools in South Carolina. Schools also receive ratings on various indicators such as academic achievement, college and career-readiness, and graduation rate.

In the Fort Mill School District, 16 schools received an excellent overall rating, 3 received a good overall rating and 1 received an average overall rating. Additionally, the Fort Mill School District had an on-time graduation rate of 95.7%, the second highest on-time graduation rate among traditional high schools in the state. We continue to far exceed the state and national average in SAT, ACT and AP scores.

Fort Mill School District was the highest-ranking district in SC Ready ELA and Math. In our high schools, we had the highest average passing rate in 3 of the 4 subjects with EOC (End of Course) exams, when compared to other traditional high schools in the state.

The report cards are available online at www.screportcards.com.

Administrative Recommendation to the Board for Student Assignment for Elementary and Middle Schools

Mr. Joe Burke presented the district’s attendance lines recommendation for elementary and middle school. This recommendation was created after reviewing the consultant’s recommendation and the submitted feedback from the community. The district received roughly 450 emails regarding the proposed attendance lines that shared concerns ranging from traffic, feeder systems and safety. Through the feedback process the district was able to identify individual neighborhoods that had been split inadvertently and corrected those areas in the recommendation.

There was also an update regarding safety, specifically as it relates to the planned SILFAB Solar facility. Based on information received today, the EPA has approved the response management plans submitted by SILFAB. The plans are being submitted to York County Emergency Management for their response planning. According to the EPA approved plans there are no scenarios that require a mandatory evacuation of the new school sites. First responders could choose to require evacuations of surrounding areas at their discretion.

The district is asking that feedback be submitted to [email protected] for consideration. Following the additional feedback process, the administration will present the final recommendation to the board for approval at the next school board meeting.

Certification of Delegates for the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) Delegate Assembly, December 7, 2024
