Carolina Thread Trail Expands with New Feasibility Study in York and Lancaster Counties

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A partnership between York County, Lancaster County, the Town of Fort Mill, and the Carolina Thread Trail is working to advance trail development between the North Carolina-South Carolina state line and Fort Mill. The initiative will evaluate nine potential corridors to expand the Carolina Thread Trail network and build on the greenway system that currently ends at the state line.

The proposed routes will prioritize existing greenways, utility easements, and connections to key community destinations. Some routes will pass through commercial properties and areas linked to homeowners associations and institutional spaces. The project partners will engage with property owners willing to provide easements for the trail expansion.

A public meeting will be held on October 10, 2024, to gather community input on the proposed trail corridors. Residents are encouraged to attend to review the alternatives and provide feedback to the study team.
