The Nation Ford Falcons overpowered Fort Mill three games to one in the best of five series. Nation Ford closed the gap, but fell short in game one against the Fort Mill Yellowjackets. Losing the first game 22-25, the Falcons came back to win game two 21-25 and tied the series at 1-1. Fort Mill had several game two rallies halted with penalties.
Nation Ford started game three hot with a 9-3 rally. At this point Fort Mill called a time out to regroup. It worked temporarily as the team tacked on a point before another out-of-rotation penalty was called on the team. Nation Ford continued their run before Fort Mill called another timeout while behind 7-16. This time the rally worked and they closed the gap rapidly on Nation Ford. With the score at 17-18 in favor of Fort Mill, they called their own timeout. Officials then stopped play at 17-19 due to their confusion on the correct score. Play restarted quickly, but another out-of-rotation call on Fort Mill put them behind 17-20. At 22-21, the Yellowjackets had their first lead of the game. However, they lost the lead and a pivotal game three, 26-24. With the win, Nation Ford led 2-1 in the best of five series.
The Falcons started game four with the ball, but the side out went to Fort Mill. That was the only lead the Yellowjackets had in a decisive game four. Nation Ford quickly made it 15-9 before Fort Mill began a minor rally and narrowed the gap to a three point deficit. However, Nation Ford didn’t take their foot off the gas and expanded their lead to 21-12. Side out Fort Mill and it’s 22-14. Fort Mill couldn’t catch a break, though, and the Falcon’s flew away with the win, 25-16, and the series, 3-1.
Fort Mill falls to 4-10 overall and 2-5 in region play. They host Catawba Ridge this Thursday.
Nation Ford improves to 6-7 overall and 2-5 for the region. They’re at Boiling Springs Wednesday and at Northwestern Thursday.
