Charles Hillman Obituary
Charles R. Hillman, Sr, of Tega Cay, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2024 at the age of 90.
He was born on May 23, 1933 to his parents Thaddieus Hillman and Elizabeth Graham in Roanoke, VA. He graduated in 1951 from Jefferson High School where he met the love of his life, Shirley Field, and promptly married after graduation.
He worked as a nationally recognized salesman with Sears Robuck for 36 years where he built valuable and lasting relationships. From a young age, he was a member of numerous Lutheran Church choirs in the Roanoke, VA and Tega Cay, SC areas. He was a true red-blooded American Patriot who loved God, family, and his country. He loved spending his time serving others graciously with his gifts and time through the church and local communities. Most recently, he enjoyed being the Greeter at The Community Café most Friday’s at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church. Chuck was an avid art collector and loved researching artists and their work. He became a well-known Art Appraiser in the Roanoke Valley and along the East coast. He will be fondly remembered for his slapstick jokes, never ending stories, and his witty humor that kept everyone, including himself, laughing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Shirley Field Hillman, as well as his children, Angelique McGowan; Charles Hillman, Jr (Patricia); Terri Hillman; Eric Hillman (Lori); and Lori Webber. He also has 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents along with 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. A meal will be provided immediately following.
The family will have the committal service at a later date TBA at St John Lutheran Church in Roanoke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Charles’s memory to Lake Wylie Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
