Fort Mill, SC (Tega Cay Sun) – The Fort Mill School District celebrated excellence within its ranks on Tuesday by recognizing a middle school language arts teacher and a district technology professional as the district’s 2023 Teacher and Support Staff Member of the year.
Lindsay Weaver, who teaches English and language arts at Gold Hill Middle School, was crowned the district’s new Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made at Catawba Ridge High School during a conference that welcomed teachers from 20 district schools and support areas, just days ahead of students returning on August 21. Weaver was chosen from five finalists for the award. The other finalists were Kasey Segal, Robin Orlick, Danielle Crouse and Molly Blum.
In her new role, Weaver will act as a liaison between teachers and administrators throughout the next year. In a unique reward, she will also receive a vehicle from Stateline Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram to drive for one year.
The Fort Mill district also bestowed the title of Support Staff Member of the Year, an annual honor that went to Cindy Ormseth on Tuesday. Mrs. Ormseth works as a computer tech engineer at the district office, and her selection was among a wide-ranging group of eligible roles including transportation staff, maintenance, school nurses and district office workers.
Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, Mrs. Ormseth will hold an essential communications position by serving on the district’s Classified Liaison Committee, continuing her commitment to supporting the educational community.
