New Townhomes Approved at Former Site of Charlotte Knights Baseball in Fort Mill

On Monday night, the York County planning commission unanimously granted approval for the preliminary plat of Grahym at Southbridge, a project by Tri Pointe Homes. Spanning over 30 acres, this development on Deerfield Drive will consist of 95 townhomes.

Fort Mill was home to the Charlotte Knights minor league baseball team for more than a decade. From 1990 to 2014, the team played in York County, near Deerfield, next to the recognizable baseball-themed water tower along I-77. Eventually, they relocated to a new stadium in uptown Charlotte.

The newly designated townhome area is situated east of I-77 and south of the intersection of Gold Hill Road and Springfield Parkway. It is directly opposite the Daimler Truck office space and on the other side of the former baseball site, across from the Fort Mill School District offices.

This property is part of the larger Southbridge development, which has undergone various changes over the past decade. In 2006, certain sections of the 355-acre property were converted into a planned development. The current Southbridge plan, approved in 2016, permits the construction of up to 5.2 million square feet of office space, 600 new residences, and 400,000 square feet of retail or service establishments.
